MY NAME IS
BREATHING MATTERS LLC
Andrea Pollock, LMT 2306
I am a licensed massage therapist in Las Cruces, New Mexico. I have been practicing massage therapy since 1991. In February of 2015, I began working on a few clients who happened to be employed in law enforcement and noticed a pattern of pain and soreness exhibited by officers wearing ballistic vests and duty belts. Over the course of my sessions with these individuals, I came to better understand the origins of the pain they were experiencing. I was able to suggest techniques, such as deep breathing and stretching, that have helped to manage their pain.
As this work has progressed, I have come to believe that educating law enforcement officers in techniques for pain and stress management will not only help the officers themselves, but will positively affect their interactions with the community as well. I have observed that current law enforcement clients have experienced increased energy, less stress, and less pain. This has led to more fulfilling personal lives and a more positive way of interacting with the public.
A critical element of muscle memory is oxygen. Stanford University has studied mindfulness (or being present) and breathing for over seven years (https://spire.io/pages/science). Their study promotes conscious breathing as a very important link between our muscles and our body. "Breathing properly has a dramatic impact on our mental and physical health. By learning how to breathe well, we unlock the ability to control our emotions, fears, and keep a clear mind. (Spire, Stanford University)."

How often do you hold your breath in an hour?
With Andrea's facilitation (fix this) to be aware of our breathing while we are living, in the same format we do when we are concentrating on it. Continuing to subconsciencly focus on our breathing withing our daily work habits.
